Northampton Apprentice Wins National Award
November 9, 2015
Four years ago a young man called Brandon Desborough registered with us looking for employment. Brandon had been looking for a job for a few months and just wasn’t getting a break. To help explore options we organised for him to do some work experience at Brackmills-based Signs Express. After a few days demonstrating his potential and showing his commitment, he was delighted to be offered an Apprenticeship at Signs Express.
Starting Off then worked in partnership with Signs Express to deliver an Apprenticeship that worked for them and Brandon. Brandon attended monthly Customer Service workshops at our training centre whilst Signs Express developed his sign making and vehicle wrapping skills.
Brandon has gone on to become one of the youngest people in the UK to become an Authorised 3M Vehicle Wrapper – the “gold standard” qualification in his field. To pass the very tough 3M exam while still a teenager was a huge achievement. Now he has had his skills recognised on the national stage. His work on a Nissan Motorsport Le Mans car which he transformed from Manchester United red to the Sky Blue branding of Manchester City FC – and was shown to fans at a Premier League game and then to Sergio Aguero and his team-mates at the City training ground – has just been recognised at the British Sign Awards where it won the Personal Vehicle Graphics Category.
Mark Meadowcroft of Signs Express has been pleased with how the Apprenticeship has worked, “We were thrilled to see Brandon’s hard work recognised on a national platform. I like to think that we have been good for Brandon, and he has certainly been good for us. His Apprenticeship helped him to discover what he enjoys and is good at and he backed that up with a great attitude and a willingness to learn. We have recruited other team members through Starting Off, and a new Apprentice has just started with us”
